We’re Thankful for these 6 Injectable Fillers For Your Face!
Injectable fillers for your face are well-known and loved for their ability to reduce many common signs of aging. With age, you may find yourself looking a bit more tired, even if you don’t feel that way. This is because lost volume often contributes to lines, wrinkles, sagginess, and under-eye hollows (which create dark circles) and result in an overall downturned or fatigued appearance. A lack of volume in other areas of your body can also noticeably contribute to an aged appearance. Versatile enough to improve these symptoms, facial injectable fillers can help you look bright-eyed and awake!
Hyaluronic Acid Injectable Fillers For Your Face
Restylane® is a popular, versatile line of cosmetic injectables that includes Restylane, Refyne, Defyne, Silk, and Lyft. They have a lot of options to choose from, so if you are interested in cosmetic injectable treatment you may be wondering: What’s the difference between Restylane, Refyne, Defyne, Silk and Lyft?
Restylane® for Facial Rejuvenation
Restylane products are made from hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a substance that is naturally present in the deeper layers of the skin, but declines as you age. Hyaluronic acid helps the skin retain water, and keeps it smooth and plump.
Our injectable fillers are therefore able to soften and hydrate the skin, add volume, and diminish fine lines and wrinkles. They are often preferred for facial rejuvenation, because they can be reversed if desired.
The Restylane family of products which includes Restylane, Defyne, Refyne, Silk, and Lyft, are all derived from HA. They reshape the face for a more youthful look, but target different areas of the face.
Restylane®
Restylane works to replace deficient hyaluronic acid in the body and fill creases to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, hallowing, and saggy skin.
Restylane specifically targets facial wrinkles and folds around the mouth. It also enhances thin or deflated lips, and can improve the appearance of tear troughs and dark circles under the eyes.
Restylane® Defyne
Restylane Defyne is a HA filler that is specially formulated to smooth moderate-to- severe deep expression lines, known as nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
Nasolabial folds (smile lines) run down from either side of the nose to the corner of the mouth, while marionette lines are the creases that can be seen alongside the mouth and often run down to the chin.
Restylane® Refyne
Restylane Refyne is also FDA approved for the treatment of nasolabial folds. Refyne is a subtle formulation of HA that is ideal for mild to moderate folds. However, Defyne is a less flexible formulation, and for that reason it provides the added support needed to treat severe wrinkles and folds.
Defyne and Refyne are both next generation HA fillers that are made using XpresHAn Technology. XpresHAn Technology is a process that gives the fillers a smooth consistency, and produces results that look entirely natural. The fillers can be tailored to satisfy the specific needs of each patient.
Both Restylane Defyne and Refyne are flexible fillers, and this makes them more effective than some of the other options now available for reducing smile lines. They are approved for use by patients 21 years of age and older.
Both Defyne and Refyne produce natural looking results that typically last for 12 months.
Restylane® Silk
The lips often lose volume and become thin as a result of aging, Restylane Silk is designed to augment the lips, making them appear fuller and more youthful. It can also be used to fill in the lip lines near the mouth, also known as ‘smoker’s lines.’
Restylane Silk is a clear liquid gel that is also comprised of HA. It is a smooth injectable that is formulated using a high concentration of cross-linked chains of HA. Restylane Silk is infused with lidocaine, a local anesthetic often used in dermatologic treatments, which helps reduce any pain or discomfort during treatment.
Restylane Silk is not animal-based, so pre-testing for allergies is not required. There is no downtime after treatment, but patients may notice some slight swelling and bruising after treatment.
Restylane® Lyft
Restylane Lyft is FDA approved for treating volume loss in the midface, and also for reducing smile lines. Lyft is a firm formulation which makes it ideal for adding volume to the cheek contours, and filling in the temples. It can also be used to smooth nasolabial folds.
Restylane Lyft is injected into the targeted area using a tiny needle, but there is minimal pain, since it is also formulated with lidocaine.
Restylane Lyft will volumize and define the cheeks to give the midface a natural looking lift. The results typically last between 10-18 months.
Collagen Stimulation Injectable Fillers For Your Face
Sculptra® Aesthetic
Sculptra® Aesthetic works subtly and gradually over time for a more youthful-looking appearance. Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, Sculptra Aesthetic helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production to help restore its inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging. Sculptra Aesthetic is intended for use in people with healthy immune systems as a one-time treatment regimen of up to four injection sessions that are scheduled about three weeks apart.
Sculptra is NOT like the injectable fillers we mentioned above! Fillers are liquid or gel substances that diminish lines by pushing up the dermis space beneath wrinkles and creases. Results appear immediately and can last up to several months.
Instead, Sculptra is a collagen stimulator. Collagen stimulating injections are used to diminish facial wrinkles by helping to restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin. Results appear gradually over the treatment regime (typically three injections over the course of three to four months) and can last up to two years.*
As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra Aesthetic works with your body within the deep dermis, rather than topically, to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. As the Sculptra Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.
What are the best injectable fillers for your face?
HA fillers provide immediate improvement for re-volumizing deflated areas of the face, filling in of fine lines, and effacement of deep folds. They can also be helpful to mask the under-eye bags and enhance and gently lift the brows. They are very popular to improve lip volume, shape, and symmetry.
Collagen stimulating injectable fillers provide long-term, gradual plumping and rejuvenation. Many women prefer the gradual nature of Sculptra because it subtly changes their appearance over time, and the results keep getting better. Sculptra is best used for shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds.
Is there anything injectable fillers for your face can’t do?
Injectable fillers can work wonders for plumping and replenishing lost volume, but there are some things they simply can’t do. We recommend booking a consultation with Dr. Zuliani when your skin laxity and sagging become an issue. Next month we’ll explore our Z Lighting Lift, a minimally invasive facelift alternative that combines techniques to produce amazing, beautiful lifting of the face and slimming of the jawline.
Lastly, skincare should never be neglected. Just like a nicely made bed, if the sheets are not smoothly pulled tight the top cover may not look smooth or if they bedcover is wrinkled or stained it doesn’t matter how tight the under sheets are pulled. A face with poor skin quality in terms of texture, fine lines, thickness, and uneven pigment may still not be optimally rejuvenated even if it is perfectly re-draped surgically, folds smoothed with filler, and deflated areas re-filled. We highly recommend checking out our retail medical-grade skincare products while at our office.
